Hello! I'm Mrs Murals aka Ellie Johnson and I live in Plymouth, Devon, UK.

I studied Fine Art full-time for five years at College and University, graduating with a Foundation Diploma and a Bachelor of the Arts Degree with Honours. Throughout my education I always thought 'outside the box' and (with permission) I sketched on walls.

 

I then spent time travelling and working abroad, immersing myself in different cultures and seeing the beauty of this planet. I brought that inspiration back with me, then as soon as I was able to I began painting walls for fun.

 

When I decided to set up Mrs Murals I had a one-year-old boy, I was heavily pregnant and I was made redundant from my office job. I needed a part-time income that would justify the cost of childcare..... and I'm lucky enough to say it has been successful from the very beginning!

 

I have since worked on a variety of exciting projects and my business has grown from painting homes and small businesses to large scale artworks in public places. I have worked alongside large organisations, schools, businesses, councillors and communities to improve and brighten public spaces. Examples of these include National Trust, NHS, Plymouth City Council, Plymouth City Centre Company, West End Plymouth, The Broadway Shopping Centre, Drake Circus (The Barcode) and Brixham Future CIC. My projects are supported locally by both Crown and Dulux Decorating Centres, so I can ensure my customers are getting the best quality paints.

In February 2024 I became a proud winner of the South West Business and Community Awards "Solo Entrepreneur of the Year"!! In April 2024 I became a finalist for the National Business and Community Awards and in October 2024 I was announced a finalist for the Devon Women In Business Awards.

I thoroughly enjoy bringing brightness into people's spaces through my art. The recent pandemic has made me even more passionate about helping others and I believe that art has the power to provoke emotions, so I've done my best to lift spirits with my art where I can. I'm very eco-conscious and do my best to work ethically, sustainably and environmentally friendly wherever and however I can.
